Practical Information

Registration

If you would like to attend the conference, please fill out the registration form. Please note that active participation is expected from all participants. Moreover, it is important that participants attend both days of the conference.

After submitting the registration form, the conference secretariat will confirm your registration and send you details about the payment of the registration fee. The registration fee for the conference is 50 euro.

As the European Commission does not fund participants from non-European countries, we kindly ask people from outside Europe not to use the registration form, but to contact the conference secretariat through this email address conference@heritageorganisations.eu.

Conference venue

In 2005 a brand new Congress and Heritage Centre rose from the remnants of the old Lamot brewery in Mechelen. The Congress Centre stores no less than 9 halls, has a capacity from 10 until 700 people and is completely equipped with the latest novelties. The Heritage Centre tells the story of Mechelen, the region and the inhabitants.

Lamot is situated in the centre of Mechelen, along the Dijle, at walking distance from numerous tourist attractions.

Address:
Lamot Congress en Heritage Centre
Van Beethovenstraat 8/10
B-2800 Mechelen
Belgium

Accommodation

The organisation of the conference will cover the costs for all hotel accommodation in Mechelen (only on Sunday and Monday!). Participants should not make any arrangements for their accommodation. You will receive more information about the accommodation after you have registered. Please note that hotel accommodation will only be arranged for foreign participants. Belgian participants who wish to stay in a hotel are kindly requested to contact the conference secretariat.

If you arrive on Saturday or leave on Wednesday, we can arrange a hotel room for these additional nights as well, but unfortunately we do not have the budget to cover these costs. Please contact the conference organisers. If you are looking for a cheap solution for any additional nights, there is also a good youth hostel in Mechelen.

The city of Mechelen

Welcome to Mechelen, a city that was once the capital of the Burgundian Netherlands (present-day Belgium and Holland). Mechelen has one of the highest concentrations of monuments North of the Alps, and is unique in Flanders in being listed not once but four times on the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage sites.

A compact city spun in a medieval web around the gigantic Cathedral tower, the city centre offers an inviting range of squares, terraces and shops, all within walking distance of each other.

Travelling to Mechelen

Participants are expected to make their own arrangements for travelling to Mechelen. The organisation committee will not cover any travel costs.

Mechelen is located exactly midway between Antwerp and Brussels and can be easily reached by car (E19), train (IC/IR railway station) and airplane (Brussels National Airport and Antwerp-Deurne are both only 20 minutes away by car).

  • Car: E19 motorway, Mechelen Noord exit (for the city centre); paid parking from Mon-Sat in the centre.
  • Train: Mechelen has two stations: the main station and Mechelen-Nekkerspoel (a short walk to the centre) – see www.b-rail.be for timetables – there are regular services from Brussels, Antwerp, Leuven and Ghent.
  • Plane: airports at Antwerp (25km) and Zaventem Brussels International Airport (18km)
  • If you fly to Brussels-South Airport (Charleroi), you can take a direct train to Mechelen from Charleroi-Sud train station
  • Check out use-it.be for more information.

Due to the central location of Mechelen, you can easily plan a day trip to other historical cities in Belgium. You can travel to Antwerp, Brussels and Leuven by train in ca. 20 minutes, to Ghent in ca. 40 minutes, and to Bruges in ca. 75 minutes. Again, check out www.b-rail.be for timetables.
